RECOPP
May 14, 2025
The RECOPPs project was a European research initiative co-funded by the European Commission through the EIT Raw Materials programme, in which the Resource Recovery and Environmental Management (R2EM) group at CCEM significantly contributed.
Its main objective was to develop a sustainable approach for recovering valuable materials like bismuth and antimony from residues produced during copper production. These materials are essential for various industries, such as clean energy, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics. The project also focused on addressing the environmental risks associated with arsenic in these residues, aiming to stabilize and safely remove it. RECOPPs successfully concluded in 2024, showcasing the potential of recycling industrial waste to recover critical raw materials and supporting the shift towards a more sustainable, circular economy.
