Biomaterials, Biomechanics and Tissue Engineering (BBT)
The Biomaterials, Biomechanics and Tissue Engineering (BBT) group focuses its activities on the design, development, functionalization and characterization of new biomaterials for tissue regeneration and functional repair. The BBT’s work is intrinsically interdisciplinary and aims at creating a direct link between two different fields, i.e. materials science and biomedicine. The group hosts 28 researchers with different backgrounds: engineers, chemists, physicists, biologists and veterinarians. The BBT’s research addresses not only on fundamental aspects but also technological issues, able to be transferred to industrial partners in the biomedical sector. The group masters several biomaterials characterization techniques, covering from the physico-chemical and mechanical characterization to the study of the interactions of the materials with the biological entities that interact with them in the physiological environment - proteins, cells, and tissues.
- Biomaterials for Bone Regeneration.
- Advanced Metallic Materials and Functionalization for Dental, Orthopedic and Cardiovascular Applications.
- Plasma for Biomedical Applications.
