Biomaterials, Biomechanics and Tissue Engineering (BBT)

The Biomaterials, Biomechanics and Tissue Engineering (BBT) group focuses on the design, development, functionalization and characterization of new biomaterials for tissue regeneration and functional repair. With intrinsically interdisciplinary research, they aim at creating a direct link between the different fields of materials science and biomedicine. The group masters several biomaterials characterization techniques, covering from the physico-chemical and mechanical characterization to the study of the interactions of the materials with the biological entities that interact with them in the physiological environment - proteins, cells, and tissues. The BBT’s research addresses not only fundamental aspects but also technological issues that can be transferred to industrial partners in the biomedical sector.

Their 3 main research lines are:

  • Development of biomaterials for bone regeneration.
  • Advanced metallic materials and functionalization for dental, orthopedic and cardiovascular applications.
  • Plasma for biomedical applications.
