A cutting-edge circular economy initiative that aims to turn animal bone waste into a powerful ally in the fight against climate change.
We’re excited to introduce the Bones for Carbon Capture (BCC) project, a cutting-edge circular economy initiative that aims to turn animal bone waste into a powerful ally in the fight against climate change. The project is led by Aquambiente Circular Economy Solutions (AGBAR - Veolia) in collaboration with the Innovation in Materials and Molecular Engineering - Biomaterials for Regenerative Therapies research group, and supported through a Nuclis grant from ACCIÓ.
hashtaBy recovering discarded animal bones and transforming them into catalysts for CO₂ capture and conversion, BCC is paving the way for sustainable production of value-added chemicals while reducing environmental impact and promoting resource recovery.
This project demonstrates how academic and industry partnerships can drive real-world climate solutions by integrating waste valorization with carbon capture technologies. At Centre de Recerca en Ciència i Enginyeria Multiescala de Barcelona (CCEM) BarcelonaTech (UPC), we are proud to be part of this multidisciplinary effort in collaboration with key companies for a lower carbon future!
