CCEM hosts the 19th Conference on Liquid and Amorphous Metals (LAM19)
Sep 05, 2025
The event brought together leading researchers and professionals to explore the latest advances in the physics of metallic liquids and glassy alloys.
The Centre de Recerca en Ciència i Enginyeria Multiescala de Barcelona (CCEM) BarcelonaTech (UPC), through its Group of Materials Characterization (GCM), proudly hosted the 19th Conference on Liquid and Amorphous Metals (LAM19) from September 1st to 5th. Held at the Escola d’Enginyeria de Barcelona Est (Campus Diagonal-Besòs), the conference welcomed researchers and professionals from around the world to share the latest advances in the physics of metallic liquids and glassy alloys.
LAM19 is a triennial event that promotes interdisciplinary collaboration and the exchange of ideas within the scientific community. This edition placed special emphasis on amorphous metals (metallic glasses) — materials with a unique, glass-like atomic structure that gives them outstanding strength, elasticity, and corrosion resistance. These properties open up exciting opportunities in energy, healthcare, and advanced manufacturing.
Among the distinguished speakers was Prof. Jürgen Eckert, Director of the Erich Schmid Institute, who presented recent innovations in the use of amorphous metals as safe and biocompatible materials. His talk demonstrated how these materials can pave the way for new applications in healthcare, such as orthopedic and dental implants.
We extend our sincere thanks to all participants for making LAM19 an inspiring and collaborative experience. Their contributions continue to advance the frontiers of research on metallic liquids and glassy alloys.
