CCEM at the 2026 UPC Knowledge Fair in Berga
Apr 20, 2026
The CCEM successfully showcased cutting-edge research in sustainability and healthcare through three interactive stands at the UPC Knowledge Fair in Berga.
Last week, the CCEM successfully participated in the annual Knowledge Fair (Fira del Coneixement) organized by the UPC and the Exploratori dels Recursos de la Natura. Over the course of two intensive days, CCEM researchers engaged with hundreds of secondary school students to demonstrate how advanced materials science addresses some of the world’s most pressing health and environmental challenges.
The CCEM was represented by three of its leading research groups, each hosting an interactive stand designed to bring complex scientific concepts to life:
-
CCEM-IMEM-BRT (Innovation in Materials and Molecular Engineering):
Presented the project "Biomaterials for Regenerative Therapies: Can bones help us stop climate change?". This exhibit explored innovative strategies for $CO_2$ recycling and the development of sustainable materials.
-
CCEM-GCM (Materials Characterization Group):
Showcased "What if the future of cooling wasn't gas, but crystals?". This research focuses on barocaloric and caloric materials, proposing a revolutionary way to cool the world without the environmental burden of traditional refrigerant gases.
-
CCEM-BBT (Biomaterials, Biomechanics and Tissue Engineering):
Displayed "From the lab to the human body: Designing materials for health", focusing on the engineering of new surfaces and scaffolds to improve medical implants and tissue regeneration.
The presence of the CCEM was made possible by the dedicated work of our researchers: Ainoa Planas, Yuliana Rodriguez, Jordi Sans, and Isabel Serrano. Through live demonstrations and scientific dialogue, they helped bridge the gap between academic research and the public, fostering scientific curiosity among the visiting students.
The Knowledge Fair in Berga is a benchmark event for scientific outreach in Catalonia, providing a platform for UPC research centers to showcase their latest technological advances to the educational community.
