Festa de la Ciència 2026

The CCEM successfully participated in the 19th edition of the Festa de la Ciència, held on April 18th and 19th at El Born Centre de Cultura i Memòria and Plaça Comercial. Organized by the Barcelona City Council, the festival serves as the city’s premier event for scientific communication, aiming to bridge the gap between academic research and the general public. This year, CCEM contributed to the program with three specialized sessions designed to demonstrate the vital role of materials science and engineering in everyday life and future technologies.

Key Contributions from CCEM Researchers:

• Materials in Daily Life: Professor Emilio Jiménez Piqué led a session titled "The Science of the Pencil and the Suitcase of Materials," where he illustrated how fundamental scientific principles govern the behavior of common objects, providing attendees with a hands-on look at the structural properties of graphite and other essential materials.

• Science and Future Horizons: Patricia López Gómez presented "Between Science and Fiction: Exploring New Horizons," an engaging workshop that examined the boundary between current technological capabilities and the speculative science of the future, sparking significant dialogue among the younger audience members.

• Polymer Science: Noel León Albiter conducted the workshop "Plastics in Action: The Science Behind Plastics," which offered a technical yet accessible overview of polymer science, addressing both the engineering challenges and the environmental considerations of plastic usage today.
