GCM Research Featured on the Front Cover of Materials Horizons

Oct 15, 2025

The Characterization of Materials Group (GCM) has published a study on enhancing solid-state cooling by combining pressure and electric field, featured on the front cover of Materials Horizons.

We are happy to announce that the research article by members of the Characterization of Materials Group (GCM), entitled “Simultaneous shifts in pressure and electric field boost the caloric response in ferroelectrics”, has been selected for the front cover of the latest issue of the journal Materials Horizons.

The study introduces a new way to enhance solid-state cooling. By applying pressure and electric field simultaneously, the caloric response of ferroelectric materials is improved. This approach reduces the required energy and widens the working temperature range, opening the doors for new eco-friendly cooling technologies.

The Materials Horizons cover conceptually captures this idea: the synergistic interplay between pressure and electric field in modulating the caloric response of ferroelectric materials.

From the Centre de Recerca en Ciència i Enginyeria Multiescala de Barcelona (CCEM), BarcelonaTech (UPC), we congratulate all co-authors!.
