Maria Pau Ginebra is awarded with the National Research Award Leonardo Torres Quevedo

Our Scientific Director Maria Pau Ginebra has received the prestigious National Research Award Leonardo Torres Quevedo for her pioneering work in biomedical engineering.

Maria Pau Ginebra, professor at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), group leader of the Biomaterials, Biomechanics and Tissue Engineering Research Group (BBT-UPC), and scientific director of the Centre de Recerca en Ciència i Enginyeria Multiescala de Barcelona (CCEM) BarcelonaTech (UPC), has been awarded the National Research Award Leonardo Torres Quevedo, granted by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities of Spain.

The jury praised her extraordinary career in the field of biomedical engineering, highlighting her pioneering leadership in the development of biomaterials for bone regeneration and their clinical applications.

The Leonardo Torres Quevedo Award, in the category of Engineering and Architecture, is part of the National Research Awards, established in 1982 and regarded as the highest recognition of scientific achievement in Spain. These awards honour Spanish researchers who have carried out outstanding work of international relevance, contributing to scientific progress, knowledge transfer, and the advancement of humanity.

This recognition marks a major milestone for our centre, consolidating our achievements and accreditations in 2025 and further inspiring our commitment to excellence and the advancement of knowledge. It is also a remarkable success for the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), which, in addition to this award, also celebrates two National Young Researchers Awards, granted to Sergi Abadal and Jezabel Curbelo.
