The Muspell project, Redefining Energy Storage, is a European Innovation Council Pathfinder initiative focused on developing a next-generation Thermal Energy Storage System (TESS) for medium-temperature applications. Coordinated by Eurac Research, the project brings together a consortium of leading institutions, including Fraunhofer ISE, the National Institute of Chemistry in Slovenia, the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Politecnico di Milano, and Swisspod Technologies. Muspell aims to create a compact, modular, and efficient TESS that integrates advanced Thermo-Chemical Materials (TCMs) and Phase-Change Materials (PCMs), along with embedded heat-pump capabilities. This innovative system seeks to enhance energy flexibility and efficiency across various industrial processes, contributing to a more sustainable and integrated energy future. The Group of Characterisation of Materials (GCM) at CCEM is a key partner in this endeavor, contributing its expertise in material characterization to support the development of the technology.
