FROSTBIT

May 14, 2025

The FROSTBIT project (First Regenerative sOlid-STate Barocaloric refrIgeraTor) is a European research initiative funded by the Horizon Europe EIC Pathfinder programme, in the period of 2024-2028, aiming to develop the first eco-friendly solid-state refrigerator using the barocaloric effect—temperature changes driven by pressure variations in advanced materials.

This innovative approach seeks to replace traditional gas-based cooling systems with sustainable solid-state alternatives. Among the seven partners involved across Europe, the Group of Characterization of Materials (GCM) led by Prof. Josep Lluís Tamarit at the CCEM, is in charge of the communications working package and plays a key role in advancing the research and development of the project.
