The NEO-CYCLE project is a European research initiative co-funded by the European Commission under Horizon Europe. It aims to develop a sustainable method for recycling materials from used neodymium-iron-boron (NdFeB) magnets, which are found in old hard disk drives. The project focuses on transforming these materials into high-quality components for use in various industries, such as pharmaceuticals, fertilizer production, and polymers. NEO-CYCLE is working on improving processes to extract and purify key materials, ensuring they can be reused to meet industry standards. The R2EM group at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) is a key partner in the project, contributing its expertise in environmental and materials science. Starting in 2024, the project is set to run for four years, aiming to make significant strides in sustainable recycling and the circular economy.
