Print4Life

Oct 03, 2025

The Print4Life project is a European research initiative funded by the Horizon Europe Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Doctoral Networks programme (2025–2029). It focuses on advancing additive manufacturing and bioprinting to create sustainable, patient-specific healthcare solutions.

Through a unique combination of hands-on research, interdisciplinary training, and industry secondments, Print4Life equips early-stage researchers with both technical expertise and entrepreneurial skills. The programme explores biodegradable and antibacterial materials (such as Mg- and Zn-alloys and advanced bioinks) as well as 3D cell-containing models to tackle pressing challenges, including the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance.

With its strong emphasis on innovation, sustainability, and cross-sector collaboration, Print4Life prepares participants for diverse career paths in academia, commercial R&D, regulatory affairs, management, and policy. By advancing both material performance and biological testing models, the project contributes to Europe’s resilience and sustainable healthcare development.

At the Barcelona Center for Research in Multiscale Science and Engineering (CCEM Barcelona), the Biomaterials, Biomechanics and Tissue Engineering (BBT) group, led by Prof. Maria-Pau Ginebra, coordinates one of the project’s key working packages, playing a central role in advancing its scientific and training goals.
