On November 4th, we will celebrate the World Materials Day 2026, a special event organized to explore the fascinating connections between materials science, history, and pop culture fiction.

Under the theme «Materials with a Story: From Ancient Mysteries to Fantasy Worlds», the session will feature three engaging presentations:

  • Carmen Nacarino Meneses (Institut Català de Paleontologia Miquel Crusafont - ICP)

«Paleontology and Materials Science: What do they have in common?»

  • Francisco Javier Giménez Izquierdo (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - UPC)

«Myth and Science in Ancient Egypt: Chemistry and Materials Science»

  • Emilio Jiménez Piqué (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - UPC)

«Fantastic Materials! Metallurgy and Materials Science in The Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, and other fantasy series»

Each 25-minute talk will be followed by dedicated time for Q&A, debate, and an open exchange of ideas with the audience.

The event is open to the entire community. We look forward to seeing you there to celebrate World Materials Day together!
