This PhD thesis explores the versatility of thermo-responsive PNIPAAm-based hydrogels as an adaptable platform for biomedical and environmental applications. By engineering their temperature-dependent behavior and integrating plasmonic and photothermal functionalities, the work demonstrates innovative implantable devices for sensing and antimicrobial therapy, as well as sustainable systems for solar-driven water desalination and energy generation. The results highlight PNIPAAm hydrogels as a powerful, multifunctional material to address challenges in healthcare and resource sustainability. Join us to learn more about this multidisciplinary research at the interface of materials science, healthcare, and sustainability.
